Appointment date!

So we received our appointment last week. We are set to meet at the SDA (Ukrainian Adopting Authority in Kiev) on December 17th. After we have the appointment we will have the legal paperwork to travel to Ruslan's Orpahage in Melitopil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melitopol) and start the process there.

From what we can gether we will be travelling there (Arrive dec 21st) to get the authority of the city to adopt Ruslan. Take this paperwork back to Kiev(arrive dec 23rd) and obtain more official paperwork. Take this more official paperwork back to Melitopil area(arrive dec 25th) to initiate court. Court may be slowed by the national holidays from Jan 1st to Jan 11th. In which case we can finish court Jan 12th. Travel to Sumy (arrive Jan 14th) right after this to get Ruslan' birth certificate (where he was born). Take this back to Melitopil area(arrive Jan 15th) to apply for passports. Once we have the passport then we can travel back to Kiev (arrive Jan 17th) and have the medical review which we take to the embassy and apply for the Visa (apply for on Jan 18th). Once we have the visa then we can either wait for our flight which is scheduled to depart back to San Diego on Jan 21st OR reschedule for an earlier date if availible!

Sound like a plan?!

Adding to the Story

It has been over 2 years since our life changing trip to Ukraine. It's amazing if you think about it. I don't know which part is more amazing, being a parent or how much we love him, or how much we learn from a kid!

Voss really puts substance into everything we do. Before kids there was a lot of stuff to do. With a kid in the picture, everything you do with them actually has more meaning. I don't mean to belittle what life was like before child, but it's just different in a good way....like building a steering wheel for the pirate ship in the backyard treehouse. Such a simple thing, but so rewarding.

In the last 2 years, we have done so much. I hate to try and wrap it up in 1 posting so I won't. More to come later on what has happened over the last 2 years. This update is just to start the ball rolling for our next chapter as a family.... the addition of Ruslan!

Ruslan (pronounced ruse LAN) joined us from Ukraine for 3 weeks this past August. He was visiting from an orphanage in Ukraine and came as part of a summer hosting program. It was really amazing how it happened and really amazing how we have made this decision to move forward and adopt Ruslan. We are now in the thick of the bureaucracy of Ukrainian adoptions and waiting to hear word on our appointment to travel to Ukraine. Of course the latest outbreak of H1N1 has the country closed for adoption, but considering what we went through the 1st time, (and how things just have a habit of working out) we are optimistic that there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

So now that the stage is set , we can share the story of what has happened over the last 2 years and how we came to meet Ruslan in our next updates! Above are some recent pictures of Voss.
